My paintings reflect my love of flowers and the lush beauty of the fields and woods that I see no matter where I travel – Vermont, Wyoming, or France. I search for the values that motivated the Old Masters as well as the Impressionists. The miracle of a luscious fruit originating from a flower fascinates me, the flower being one color and the fruit another. Landscapes are really no different, colors change as do seasons. I use the Old Masters' method of priming the canvas, using many layers of gesso and paint to achieve the details I desire. James Sulkowski of the Sulkowski Academy of Fine Arts, Pittsburgh, PA, and Frank Mason of the Art Students League of New York, NY, have shared their knowledge of classical painting with me as well as Sandy Sanders of Tennessee. I strive to produce a beautiful color painting either on board or linen canvas while showing shading and reflections that correspond with the subject matter. Several of my works have been purchased by the R. J. Reynolds Company for its corporate offices in North Carolina. Many of my paintings have been exhibited and sold in galleries in San Diego, CA; Winston-Salem, NC; and, Memphis and Germantown, TN, as well as the J. J. Gillespie Company in Pittsburgh, PA. My education includes the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania and the Allegheny Community College, Pittsburgh, PA; The Artist/Teacher Institute, NJ Council of the Arts, Stockton, NJ; Winston-Salem School of the Arts, NC; and, the Art Students League of New York, NY. |
